Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.)
The Langdale College of Business Masters of Accountancy (MAcc) program is a full-time, one-year program. Admission is competitive and based on space availability. Students may enter the program in fall, spring or summer. Our MAcc program prepares graduates for careers in: Public Accounting, Financial Services, Government and non-profit, Corporate Finance.
Students study accounting in greater depth than is typically provided in an undergraduate accounting program or MBA program with a concentration in accounting. The of the MAcc program include developing sound technical accounting, analytical, communication, and technology skills that are required to succeed in the accounting profession.
Students graduate from the MAcc program having fulfilled the educational requirements to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination in Georgia.
An additional characteristic that sets the Langdale College of Business MAcc program apart from many of its peers is the personal attention given to each student’s learning needs. Enrollments are managed to assure small class sizes so that students have significant opportunities to interact with each professor and their peers.

- Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution
- An undergraduate degree in accounting is not required for admission, but each MAcc course has one or more prerequisites. Applicants without an undergraduate accounting degree must complete certain VSU courses (see Important Program Information section for a list of the courses) with a grade of “C” or better, or complete equivalent courses at an AACSB-accredited school of business.

- The MACC program is a full-time, one-year program. It consists of six accounting courses and four student-chosen electives. Upon completion of the program, graduates who also hold an undergraduate accounting degree will have fulfilled the educational requirements to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination in Georgia.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants must meet all admission criteria and documentation requirements as defined by the program, however, additional documentation may be required. Please review the information below for specific information and guidelines.
- - The TOEFL exam is required for applicants whose first language is not English based on country of citizenship. International applicants whose first language is not English but who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. institution may be exempt from the TOEFL exam. – The minimum TOEFL scores for the MBA program are as follows:
- Paper-based Test: 523
- Computer-based Test: 193
- Internet-based Test: 70
- Certificate of Finances - The Certificate of Finance is required of any applicant requiring a student visa to enter the United States to complete his or her studies. This document is considered a part of the application for admission and applications will not be reviewed without this document. Applicants who do not require an I-20 student visa to complete their studies are exempt from this requirement.
- Evaluation of International Transcripts - Applicants who have completed coursework at an institution outside of the United States must submit a course-by-course evaluation of the coursework. This transcript evaluation must be completed by an international education credentials evaluation service such as Josef Silny, ECE, etc. The transcript evaluation does not replace the transcript requirement. Official transcripts are still required.
ADMISSION CLASSIFICATIONS
- Regular Status only (no Probationary or Irregular Admission)
- In certain cases, non-degree or transient status may be approved for applicants who have already completed almost all of the 150 semester credit hours (SCH) necessary to sit for the Georgia CPA exam (e.g, an applicant has 130 SCH and needs to complete 20 more). Applicants who wish to take courses but do not wish to pursue the degree must seek departmental approval before applying and must meet the minimum criteria for admission (full admissions requirements and documentation thereof must be submitted).
- Under certain conditions, undergraduate students may be allowed by the VSU Graduate School (at the recommendation of his or her advisor) to take up to nine semester credit hours of graduate coursework over the course of two semesters (a maximum of 6 hours can be taken in any one semester). Students must hold an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better and be in their final two semesters of undergraduate work. Please contact the Graduate School for further information.

- A 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale is required for graduation. No grade below a “C” will be credited toward the degree.
- The maximum time allowed for completion of the master’s degree is seven calendar years. All requirements for the MAcc degree must be completed within the seven-year period beginning with the student’s first term of enrollment in a graduate course (i.e., a 7000 level course).
RETENTION, DISMISSAL, & READMISSION POLICIES
- If transferred from an AACSB-accredited graduate business program, up to six semester hours of graduate business courses may be counted toward the requirements for the MAcc degree at 皇家华人 State University. Students wishing to transfer credit must request and receive permission to do so from the Director before beginning the program. This credit must be documented in the form of an official transcript at the time of admission. Transfer credit will be evaluated after admission, by the academic department. To be eligible, credit must be no more than seven years old at the time of admssion unless otherwise approvd by the program.
- Policy provides for automatic dismissal if a student accumulates 3 or more deficiency points based on the following scale:
A = 0,
B = 0,
C = 1,
D = 2
WF or F = 3,
U = 2
A student may appeal the dismissal decision within 30 business days of grades being posted on the VSU Banner system. The form for appeals is available on the VSU Graduate School website. Graduate students who wish to appeal a dismissal must first discuss the issue with their professor. Further appeals are then directed, in order, to the professor's department head, the director of the MAcc program, the dean of the Langdale College, the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost. - Any student who receives two or more grades below a B will be subject to review for continuation in the MAcc program.
- No grade below a C will be credited toward a graduate degree.
- The maximum time allowed for completion of the master’s degree is seven calendar years. All requirements for the MAcc degree must be completed within the seven-year period beginning with the student’s first term of enrollment in a graduate course (i.e., a 7000-level course).
- After admission, courses taken more than seven years prior to the semester of degree completion cannot be used to meet graduate degree requirements or admission to doctoral candidacy requirements unless otherwise indicated by individual program requirements.
- Students dismissed from the program will not be readmitted.
