b'First-Year ProgramsThe Office of First-Year Programs offers several initiatives that support the transition from high school to college. The First Year Seminar Experience (FYSE 1101) course introduces and engages First-Year students to the academic environment while providing opportunities to acquire the educational and social skills essential for long-term academic success.Each FYSE course has a Peer Mentor embedded to provide additional support to students and help them adjust to college life. Freshman Learning 皇家华人 (FLCs)The FLCs are designed based on the Academic CORE, specific majors, or various subjects and themes.Each FLC consists of a small group of 22-25 First-Year or transfer students taking two to three linked courses together throughout their first semester. Commuter Success Coaches (CSC) are upper-classmen who support and engage with First-Year Commuter students throughout the academic year.First-Year Commuter students will be paired with a commuter success coach. Advising Advising is an essential component in a students successful academic life. At VSU, you will be placed with a professional, academic advisor specific to your college starting your first semester. Your advisor will work with you throughout your college career to ensure that you remain on track, complete courses required to obtain your degree, provide connections to campus resources, and help you identify your academic and career interests.Academic Support CenterOur Academic Support Center will be available throughout your college career to enrich your education through various tutoring options, workshops, supplemental instruction sessions, and even employment as a tutor. Honors CollegeVSUs Honors College is dedicated to inspiring the highest academic achievement through experiential learning opportunities, exclusive housing, priority registration, and access to unique study abroad programs. Along the way, youll create lifelong friendships, develop your skill set, and enjoy an enhanced college experience.'
