Experiential Learning Opportunities
The Computer Science department has several experiential learning opportunities available to our students:
- CS 4950 - Directed Study (EL1, EL2, EL3)
- Students work on an undergraduate research/programming project under the supervision of faculty members.
- Students will write a report describing their research experience, knowledge acquired, and a self-reflection on how this relates to their overall learning.
- Expected number of work hours associated with this work: 45/90/135 hours depending on the number of credit hours the student registers for 1 credit hour = EL1; 2 credit hours = EL2; 3 credit hours = EL3
- CS 4800 - Co-op/Internship Credit (EL3)
- Students will work on an internship at a company/business in a technical role.
- Students will provide a plan of work at the beginning of the internship and a reflective statement at the end of the internship. The internship supervisor also provides a feedback about the student’s work. The knowledge gained by the students from this experience will help them in other courses.
- Expected number of work hours associated with this work: 15-20 hrs/week for a total of 150-225 hrs
- Work at VSU-IT (EL3)
- Students work at VSU IT in a technical role.
- Students will provide a description of work at the beginning of the semester and a reflective statement at the end of the semester. The supervisor also provides a feedback about the student’s work. The knowledge gained by the students from this experience will help them in other courses.
- Expected number of work hours associated with this work: 10-15 hrs/week.
