FAQs
WHO CAN USE THE CENTER?
Counseling services are available to enrolled VSU students.
DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE A COUNSELOR?
Counseling sessions are scheduled by appointment. The first session will be a brief phone assessment that is usually scheduled within 24-48 hours of contacting the Counseling Center. This phone assessment allows the student and counselor to collaborate and determine what services will best fit the student's needs.
WHAT IF I NEED TO SPEAK TO A COUNSELOR NOW?
Counselors are available to assist with mental health crises. If your concern is an emergency and you feel you need to be seen immediately, please contact the Counseling Center so we may set up a crisis screening. An appointment will be scheduled based on that screening. Should you be experiencing a mental health crisis after business hours, please call our office at (229) 333-5940 to be connected with a counselor through our 24/7 Support Line.
DO YOU OFFER PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES FOR MEDICATION?
The Counseling Center partners with a virtual psychiatric prescribing clinic to provide psychiatric assessment and medication management services. This service is free of charge for VSU students, although students are responsible for the cost of medication.
WHAT KINDS OF ISSUES ARE APPROPRIATE FOR COUNSELING?
Students utilize counseling services for a number of issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, relationship concerns, academic concerns, grief, etc. The Counseling Center is dedicated to helping any student in distress.
IS THERE A FEE OR CHARGE?
All counseling services are provided free of charge.
